We would like to invite you to the next Research Lunch, organised by the Network Institute to facilitate exchange between researchers at the VU across faculties and disciplines.
On July 10th, Camilo Vieira, assistant professor in the Department of Education at Universidad del Norte (Colombia), will discuss his work on Accessible Computer Science Education in Latin American Contexts.
Abstract:
Despite growing global interest in computer science education, most research and innovation in the field still reflect the assumptions, infrastructures, and priorities of the Global North. In this talk, we will explore: What does equitable and effective computer science education look like in Latin American contexts? Drawing on work from the Global Center for Equitable Computer Science Education, I will explore the cognitive processes involved in learning CS, and how it may contribute to bridging existing gaps in STEM. Our research examines not only how students learn, but also how teachers learn to teach CS, and how we are developing ROVERSA, a low-cost, locally designed educational robot aimed at expanding access to hands-on computing. We hope to see many of you there! (Vegetarian) lunch will be provided, so please sign up using the form.
