The Network Institute receives a VU Research Means Grant

We are thrilled to announce the CvB has formally decided to help us with VU Research Means (VUO) to further develop our AI-platform Nebula.
From 2027 onwards the Network Institute together with IT for Research (ItvO) will look into the possibilities of scaling the platform to a VU-wide research facility. The project should lead to a VU AI-platform that is accessible to all VU researchers. The Nebula Research Platform fits well with the intention of the VU to strengthen its forerunner position in the field of Generative AI in research as indicated in the Institutional Plan 2026-2030.

Nebula is the AI-platform of the Network Institute that offers a way to safely and easily use Open-Source Large Language Models (LLMs). Nebula offers safety because data never leaves the VU campus, but also high flexibility so research into and with LLMs becomes a breeze. Besides the local LLMs Nebula also offers access to the SURF LLMs via one singular interface.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us with the pilot, and everyone who helped spread the word about Nebula.

Happy sovereign prompting 🙂
