We would like to invite you to the next Research Lunch, organised by the Network Institute to facilitate exchange between researchers at the VU across faculties and disciplines.
On November 13th, the team behind Civinc will give a talk about how their dialogue tool facilitates conversations around contentious issues at large scale.
Dialogue in a polarized world: turning disagreement into learning
What happens when students that disagree on contentious issues (climate policy, AI ethics, social justice etc) are matched in anonymous, 1-on-1 chat conversations? Civinc is a new type of dialogue tool that facilitates such conversations at large scale, designed to offer educators an inclusive and innovative ‘training ground for perspective exchange’. In this seminar Civinc’s founder Ruben Treurniet will talk about the origin of the concept and the ways in which it is used in university courses that aim to prepare students for dialogue in a polarized world. Dr. Tjitske de Groot from Utrecht University will share insights of the promising scientific research that underpins the method. A session for anyone curious about the intersection of dialogue, technology, and learning.
We hope to see many of you there! (Vegetarian) lunch will be provided, so please sign up using this form.
